“Welcome to the future.”
That’s what they told us.
When Project Twine aired on the local news, they unveiled the impossible: a fully working time machine. Although many didn’t believe it, this invention changed everything.
Investors poured in, and in the months that followed, the machine was stripped of anything valuable. Mining operations were established in other eras, operating under one rule: let the past be the past.
Companies lobbied for fewer laws, so the rules never stopped anyone.
The economy crashed… hard. The world couldn’t keep up.
Neither could we.
We applied for jobs as W.A.W.A.s (Workforce Admitted Wavered Assets). For one of the companies that started the world's downfall. Now, we’re just property on paper; forced to go back in time and retrieve priceless artifacts, paid only with promises that they’d feed our families.
No future waiting. No reward. No escape. Still, we keep working. Because that’s all we can do.
Well, as they put it…
“Welcome to the future.”
