  • RAF Folkingham

    Folkingham Airfield was made in 1942 - 1943 for the arrival of the United States Army Air Force. The 313th Troop Carrier Group which is part of IX Troop Carrier Command, 9th Air Force, United States Army Air Force arrived to Folkingham in March 1944 after being based in North Africa for Operation Husky in 1943. The 313th Troop Carrier Group were based at Folkingham until early 1945 which is when they were sent to France to do practice drops with the 17th Airborne. The 313th were using C-46 Commando's by 1945, and took part in Operation Varsity. By the 1950's the RAF used the airfield for basing the Thore Nuclear Missiles on the airfield. After the Cold War the airfield was abandoned. When the owner of the airfield (The Farmer) died he was buried on the airfield because of how much it meant to him, for its use during World War II Group: http://www.roblox.com/My/Groups.aspx?gid=1176458 Folkingham was known as USAAF Station AAF-484 for security reasons by the USAAF during the war
