Nobody knows when the world became this way. One day, the contagion suddenly started. Humans lost the power to connect with the City. After that, the City expanded on its own. Humans were seen as illegal residents and exterminated.

The last of humanity awakens.

On June 22nd, 2017, all adult persons who fell asleep no longer woke up. They appeared to be brain dead, or in unbreakable sleep. This became known as "the Bliss." In 2019, large mechanical figures emerged from parts unknown to destroy the remnants of civilization. Believed to be remotely operated by extraterrestrial intelligences, they became known as Remotes. The current year is 2024. For reasons unknown, the Remotes have drained most of Earth's water. Their progress is impeded by resistance cells throughout the world who reverse engineered a deep sleep capsule they call the ANIMa from a remote's core. By entering the ANIMa, the children in these resistance cells are able to awake in the Dream World, where the Remote's controllers exist, and fight them using weapons made from raw emotion. These are the Children of Dreams.
