1982年5月7日：88K線投入服務，來往顯田及何東樓（即今駿景園），以取代88A及88B線，服務該兩線原有的覆蓋範圍。晚上八時許至尾班車期間只行走大圍至何東樓一段。 ◾ 1982年8月20日：來回程均改為繞經沙田火車站而不再繞經沙田墟，以配合前者啟用。 ◾ 1983年3月6日：何東樓總站由何東樓通道遷往D15路（即今樂信徑），來回程途經樂林路及松頭下路一帶。 ◾ 1983年6月17日：繞經銀禧體育中心（1991年4月初改稱香港體育學院）。 ◾ 1984年4月29日：所有班次均來往顯田及何東樓，並改經田心街及A路。 ◾ 1984年12月2日：不再繞經沙田火車站，改經沙田市中心總站（新城市廣場）。當時九巴統一沙田區內線票價，此路線的全程車資獲下調。 ◾ 1986年11月2日：配合顯徑邨入伙，顯田總站於當天改稱顯徑，同時改經樂景街（火炭站及銀禧花園），不再經銀禧體育中心、樂林路及松頭下路；同時改派雙層巴士行走。 ◾ 1988年4月25日：增設由顯徑單向前往大圍火車站的早晨特別班次（1996年6月10日起編為88S線，2005年8月27日起停止服務）。 ◾ 1989年9月18日：增設平日下午由沙田市中心開往顯徑的單向特別班次。 ◾ 1994年2月20日：沙田市中心開往顯徑的單向特別班次改為每日早上至黃昏雙向服務，並獲獨立編號為88P。 ◾ 1996年6月15日：引入2輛單層低地台易搭巴士，是首條獲派低地台巴士的九巴路線，亦代表此路線正式增設空調巴士服務。 ◾ 1996年9月1日：何東樓總站改稱駿景園。 ◾ 1999年5月10日：與87A線增設全港首個八達通轉乘優惠，以準備取代87線（87線於翌年5月1日取消），兩線乘客均可免費轉乘另一路線的空調或非空調巴士。 ◾ 2006年7月29日：提升為全空調服務，並降低全程收費。同日起往駿景園方向不再繞經大圍火車站巴士總站，改停美田路近積運街分站。 ◾ 2007年1月15日：因應九鐵接駁巴士K11線取消服務，增設由火炭火車站往駿景園的分段收費，至同年11月30日為止。
