Laos, Vientiane: Pha That Luang
Pha That Luang is a gilded Buddhist stupa located in Vientiane, Laos. Known as the "Great Stupa", it is one of the country's most recognizable monuments. It is said to hold the "breastbone" of the Buddha Siddhartha Gautama.
Said to have been constructed by the Lan Xang King Setthathirat in 1566. Over its lifetime, it was repeatedly ransacked and destroyed, but had been reconstructed over many times.
Nowadays, there is a festival dedicated to it held within the capital of Vientiane, called "Boun That Luang", it's held over a period of three to seven days in November on a full moon according to the Lunar Calendar.

Laos, Vientiane: Patuxay
Patuxay (Or Patuxai, take your pick) literally meaning Victory Gate or Gate of Triumph (Originally called The Anousavary) is located in Vientiane, capital of Laos. It was built between 1957 and 1968, in commemoration of those who fought for the Laotian Independence from France, and also serves as a monument for those that died in World War II.
It resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, but has Laotian designs and decorations.
