Beginning in his early years, he started the rigorous training to become a Republic Commando, successfully passing his tests and being cleared for ops. Because of his brash nature, he disregarded the regular four-man squadron rules and accepted a total of nine men (including himself) for his Republic Commando squadron. The men were nicknamed "Iota Squadron" as a result. Throughout the years, Iota Squadron completed ops for the Republic and became a valuable asset during the wars.
