Calamity Canyon first opened with Chessington World of Adventures in 1987. The area opened with the Runaway Mine Train and the Reptile House. In 1995, Rodeo opened in that area after being relocated from Circus World (which became Beanoland and Wild Asia), where the ride was called The Juggler. In 1997, the Reptile House has been relocated to Chessington Zoo and became the Creepy Caves, to make way for Rattlesnake, which opened for the 1998 season. In 1999, Calamity Canyon was renamed to Mexicana. In 2004, the Rodeo has closed down at the end of the season. In 2012, the Runaway Train was closed and during 2013, the ride was being rebuilt and rethemed and became the Scorpion Express, which opened for the 2014 season.
