Set in 1974, End of the Grangers documents an era overlooked by most today but defining of the mid 20th century, with railroads being a shell of their former glory and struggling to keep afloat. The Rock Island, barely holding onto its once-renowned "Rocket" trains and picking and choosing between units to maintain, the Milwaukee Road with its decaying physical plant and oddly-modified units, and the BN being one of the few roads staying keeping its head out of the water, along with the Dri Line straddling the Big Muddy, all come together in the Tri-City area of eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois, along with various other regional stars like the Santa Fe and Chicago and Northwestern. With over 250 miles of trackage faithfully replicated through thorough research of the period throughout the map from railroad documents, trackside photos, and historical aerial photos, there's no end to what you can run between regional hotspots.
