In there confusion, they ran into the portal, thinking it would save them. The portal stopped, only sucking in the loose items before dissapearing. Those lose items were the food and furniture. Only the houses and ice factory stand. Also the beacons and the timer. The ice and trees you see have been there for over 300 years. You are walking in history itself right now.

The propellers keep the ship in the air, but they also power the boosters that keep them stabalized. You can't see these though. The giant glass sight seeing point is called "Warlord's Lookout" Enjoy your stay.
