Press E to duck. Use headphones, and ideally play at max graphics if your PC can handle it. Upon joining, you will be put into "Chill Mode" which will disable dying, I'd recommend playing through the game with this mode on during your first playthrough. After that, you can click the snowflake button at the bottom left to go into "Skill Mode" and go for the badge.
