Description

On August 8th, 1997, Amtrak's "Southwest Chief" passenger train was travelling from Los Angeles Granite Union Station bound for Chicago Illinois when at Kingman, DISASTER STRUCK! Train: Amtrak P42DC 47 Amtrak P42DC 50 Amtrak P42DC 80 Amtrak P42DC 52 Amtrak Baggage Car x1 Amtrak Superliners (Unknown amount of cars) Aftermath: P42DC No. 47 was repaired but was involved in another wreck in 2018 (the Cayce Train Collision) that destroyed it and it was scrapped that same year in 2018. P42DC No. 50 was repaired and returned to service with Amtrak and is currently operational with Amtrak's "Southwest Chief" passenger train as of today. P42DC Nos. 52 and 80 were repaired and returned to service until being retired in 2023 and both are in storage at Beech Grove, Indiana
