Description
Fort Falkenstein was a fort erected to defend the nearby town of Aschersleben from forest assaults by Austrian forces in the Seven Years War. It was forcefully decommisioned by Napoleon in 1806 after the formation of the Confederation of the Rhine. After the unification of Germany, the Emperor recommissioned it for the purpose of training new troops in the army, and since then has remained a key role in the recruitment of German battalions.
