Description

The lands here were granted to Patrick Dunbar, Earl of March, by King David II in the 15th century. Mockrum Castle, originally built in 1385, and its estate of 16,500 acres lies on a remote open moor, scattered with picturesque lochs in the Machars region of Galloway in the south west of Scotland. The Estate now serves as the seat for the Dunbar Baronet of Mockrum and Chief of Clan Dunbar. The name “Mockrum” means “hill in the plain by the sea”. Mockrum gained vast renown for its world famous flock of Galloway sheep that roam the grounds and drive of the estate.
