Laos, Vientiane: Pha That Luang
Pha That Luang ist ein vergoldeter buddhistischer Stupa in Vientiane, Laos. Bekannt als der "Große Stupa" ist es eines der bekanntesten Denkmäler des Landes. Es wird gesagt, dass es das "Brustknochen" des Buddha Siddhartha Gautama trägt.
Es wird gesagt, dass es 1566 von König Setthathirat von Lan Xang gebaut wurde. Während seiner gesamten Lebensdauer wurde es wiederholt geplündert und zerstört, wurde aber viele Male rekonstruiert.
Heutzutage findet in der Hauptstadt Vientiane ein Festival statt, das "Boun That Luang" genannt wird und im November an einem Vollmond nach dem Mondkalender über einen Zeitraum von drei bis sieben Tagen stattfindet.

Laos, Vientiane: Patuxay
Patuxay (Or Patuxai, take your pick) literally meaning Victory Gate or Gate of Triumph (Originally called The Anousavary) is located in Vientiane, capital of Laos. It was built between 1957 and 1968, in commemoration of those who fought for the Laotian Independence from France, and also serves as a monument for those that died in World War II.
It resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, but has Laotian designs and decorations.
