The Financial District's World Trade Center were more than just buildings.  They were proof in New York's belief in itself.  Built at a time when the future of Lower Manhattan seemed uncertain, the World Trade Center restored all confidence and quickly became the focal point of New York City earning it's role as a most recognizable site and quickly became icons of the world.
