But that wasn't the only annoyance, the NBCs and BCs were always arguing with each other. Some people knew, this wouldn't stay peaceful for long. And they were 100% right. Many people were killed in the 1st part of the war which was the NBC vs BC. Afterwards, the N00bs "accidentally" set off a nuke. This catastropically and permanently changed the world for the worse. There were actually quite a few survivors, some were exposed to radiation and either died, or became mutants. Others just continued their lives in the catastophic wastelands. You are one of the sole survivors.
